About Valley Emergency Medical Services
Working closely with Griffin Hospital to develop protocols and ensure a high-caliber of clinical intervention, VEMS also provides advice and counsel to public officials representing the towns it serves. Mayors and First Selectmen rely on VEMS leadership for advice on how to handle their own public health and safety matters. The original intent of VEMS has not been lost. Through its Board of Directors, VEMS still works to bring the communities it serves together in the collaborative effort of ensuring high quality and comprehensive care to the region’s residents.
Why Choose VEMS?
Valley Emergency Medical Services (VEMS) was formed in 1983 as a 501©3 non-profit organization to provide EMS advanced life support (ALS) care to the residents of Ansonia, Derby, Seymour, Shelton and Oxford. The need to provide better emergent care was critical to the region. Up until this time, the towns had received emergency medical care from the town volunteer ambulance companies that could provide only basic care. The volunteers were very limited in their treatment of critical and seriously injured patients. Our highly trained VEMS paramedics continue today to work alongside the volunteers and community ambulance services.
Our Capabilities
VEMS provides an important and necessary service to the communities to which it is dedicated. The mission statement is, “Provide quality Advanced Life Support for the dying, sick or injured 24/7”. A simple statement, that means so much.
We strive to deliver excellent pre-hospital clinical care in a sensitive environment, while always being aware of each patient’s dignity and needs.
